Crochet Goomis Book Review and Giveaway!

If you've been following Louie from Club Crochet, you may have noticed the recent release of his highly anticipated book, "Crochet Goomies." If so, you're in the right place! As someone who loves crocheting mini amigurumi, I was thrilled to learn about this new book. 

In "Crochet Goomies," Louie has created a whimsical and enchanting world filled with imaginative characters and unique creatures. As a fan of fantasy novels and whimsical storytelling, this book immediately caught my attention.

Patterns Included

This book includes 50 unique amigurumi creatures and characters from the world of Goomia, with patterns organized into 10 distinct regions. These regions include:

1. Wooly Woods
2. Dusty Dungeons
3. Mogsbee
4. Mushtapped Jungles
5. Stitchsoaked Shores
6. Thread Sea
7. Forgotten Island
8. Frillyfrost Fjord
9. Sweet City
10. Rip in Space-Twine

Each region is home to a variety of characters and creatures you can expect to encounter. For instance, in Wooly Woods, you will meet Walter the Frog, while in the Dusty Dungeons, you'll come across Flint the Dragon. Each character and region comes with an introduction that helps to illustrate this whimsical world.

What are the Patterns Like?

Each pattern is presented round by round in a clear and concise manner, making it easy to follow, accompanied by helpful pictures and descriptions to guide you through the process. The patterns also include several suggestions to enhance or improve the final product. For instance, the Simon the Sloth pattern suggests adding small magnets to the arms, which allows your sloth to easily hold its arms together or hang from objects.

Many of the patterns include specialty or more complex stitches, which are clearly explained at the beginning of the book, making it especially useful for beginners.

Both patterns I crocheted from the book, Simon the Sloth and Walter the Frog, were relatively quick to crochet, taking only a few hours to complete.

Crochet Terminology

This book utilizes US terminology and abbreviations. A helpful feature for beginners is the opportunity to learn and practice crocheting amigurumi with SIG (Standard Issue Amigurumi). This straightforward crochet pattern introduces you to essential amigurumi stitches and techniques, while also providing a chance to hone your skills.

Skill Levels

Four skill levels are featured in this book:

1. Beginner
2. Easy
3. Medium
4. Hard

While this book features a variety of skill levels, most patterns are categorized as easy or medium. Each chapter or region in this book concludes with a more difficult "boss" character, providing a clear goal to strive for.

Supplies Needed

All patterns require worsted weight yarn, preferably Club Crochet Amigurumi Cotton.

Other materials needed:

• Size G/6 (4mm) crochet hook
• Safety eyes of various sizes
• Darning needle
• Stuffing and stuffing stick
• Scissors
• Magnets (optional)
• Wire or Pipe cleaners

Support Tools for Makers

This book includes many instructional pages that guide you through each stitch and technique step by step. Additionally, every pattern features a full-length video tutorial, which is ideal for visual learners.

Bonus Content

This book includes 50 fun amigurumi creatures to make, and you can also use your creations to play your own crochet card game called Battle Goomis! How cool is that? The cards feature all the characters you’ll enjoy creating.

Overall Review 

This book was an absolute delight from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in the enchanting world it presented, and I had a fantastic time crocheting some of the whimsical creatures that came to life through its pages. Each character I created sparked my imagination and deepened my connection to the story, making me feel as if I was part of this magical realm. 

The clear instructions and inspiring designs made the process enjoyable and fulfilling. I believe this would be a fantastic addition for crocheters of all skill levels. As an advanced amigurumi crocheter, I had no difficulties while working on the patterns. While some patterns may be more challenging for beginners, the numerous instructional pages and videos would allow anyone to easily learn and progress to the more advanced designs.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience that combined my love for reading with my passion for crochet, resulting in a truly memorable journey. I can’t wait to crochet more patterns from this book!
